TDT Preservationwere called to a property in Walcot Parade to inspect a cellar vault formed beneath the raised pavement that is built across the front of these terraced Georgian houses.
The owner has previously engaged another local damp proofing company who had recommended and installed a cementitious waterproof rendering system. This system had, since it’s installation been a constant source of concern and irritation for the building owner as it had cracked and leaked on a number of occasions .
The installing company recommended, and installed a humidistat operated extractor fan in an effort to overcome the persistent condensation problems and had returned on several occasions to ’patch’ up the cracked areas.
Finally the owner of the property realised that the system used was ineffective and called TDT Preservation to advise.
TDT Preservation recommended and introduced a polyethylene cavity drainage lining system (Oldroyd P) to the walls, vaulted surfaces and floor. This type of system has many advantages over a direct rendering method. Basically the profiles polyethylene lining allows water to enter the structure but controls this water by draining it away, either to an existing drain or by a collection sump and pump arrangement.
There is much reduced risk of condensation forming and, because the lining is flexible, structural or thermal movement does not adversely affect the integrity of the system.
TDT Preservation were formed in 1967, making it the longest established remedial treatment company in the Bath area. TDT Preservation were local pioneers of the cavity drain system, having introduced the first system in Bath 10 years ago. TDT Preservation are members of the British Wood Preserving and Damp Proofing Association are ISO 9001 and Constructionline accredited.
