A Case History on Damp Proofing
Early in 2006 TDT Preservation were invited, by Main Contractors Emery’s of Bath, to make recommendations for damp proofing a proposed Archive Storage Room in St John’s Hospital in the centre of the World Heritage City , Bath.
The area, although alongside a boiler room, was partially below ground with moisture percolating the soil retaining walls on two sides.
As the area was to be damp proofed to the highest standard, TDT Preservation recommended the use of an Oldroyd heavy duty polyethylene lining system.
Emery’s prepared the area, forming a new doorway and providing a raised, concrete beam floor, drainage was provided in the subfloor area.
TDT Preservation then lined the walls and floor using Oldroyd Xv membrane, using patent fixing plugs the walls were then battened (see photo) and a plasterboard lining introduced.
The floor was screeded over and the plasterboard linings skim coated.
The engineers introduced heating and ventilation to provide a controlled environment for the storage of Archive material and the whole contract was drawn to a successful conclusion by the teamwork involved.
If you have a basement area you wish to upgrade for storage or domestic use, ask TDT Preservation to visit and make recommendations for a high quality conversion.
TDT Preservation were formed in 1967, making it the longest established remedial treatment company in the Bath area.
TDT Preservation were local pioneers of the cavity drain system, having introduced the first system in Bath over 10 years ago.
TDT Preservation are members of the British Wood Preserving and Damp Proofing Association are ISO 9001 and Constructionline accredited.
